Jane Ferguson was peeling potatoes when a police officer knocked on her door and told her that her husband of nearly 35 years was dead.
“In that moment I went from being a happily married woman to half a couple,” she said in her victim impact statement Monday at Old City Hall.
The cement truck driver who struck and killed Ferguson’s husband John Offutt was fined $2,000 after pleading guilty to careless driving Monday. He will have his licence suspended for six months and will be required to complete 100 hours of community service. He will not serve any jail time.
